Haven’t tried this yet but it looks like a good weekend project. I wonder if I can convince the old Tivo I have that I get both cable and antenna channels at the same time.
The Pietenna HD Antenna Looks Terrible but Gets Great Signal.

Reasons why the internet is awesome: I’m sitting in Salt Lake City, watching waves, surfers and whales in Hawaii, listening to KEXP in Washington, chatting with friends and family around the the country.

I just spent half an hour on Comcast’s, DirecTV’s and Dish’s websites comparing offerings. My conclusion is that they don’t exist to provide a product or quality service. They exist to extract the greatest amount of money from “customers” through lack of competition. I don’t watch a whole lot of TV but I do watch some and for me I don’t see how any of the packages are remotely worth my money.
I’ll be spending the next little bit seeing what’s on TV that is also available on the internet and then how to stream that from my computer to TV, or set up my smart TV to automatically get it. I know The Daily Show and Colbert Report already stream online one day later. Now to find other good content that doesn’t require 2 year agreements or signing up to pay for a whole bunch of channels I won’t watch.

So I recently found a neat idea online and made it tonight. It’s a box to put all your power cords in to declutter your desk. I added a USB hub to it and now my laptop has all its wires neatly arrayed.

So a while back I took some pictures right after a storm passed through. It was still breaking up on the mountains when I got these images. Just recently we had a major storm pass through and I was able to get some pictures from before it started. The sun was low enough it light up the mountains by shining underneath the clouds! The pictures with the flag: that’s one of those giant flags that you can see from 10 miles off. You can imagine the wind from seeing how actively it’s waving. The sound of the wind was incredible!

So I finally decorated. I decided not to be a Scrooge this year. Not a huge amount, but there is a stocking and some other stuff too.

Time lapse: I think that describes my mind’s view of time since the start of the semester. Things are going very well for once, so it’s working out. Otherwise there is this time lapse for entertainment. (You might need to install mpeg4 if you’re on Windows. Go here and download and install the pack.

Yay! It’s finally break winter break! The solstice is a week away. Shannon will be here in a few days! I’ll get home made carmels and fudge in a week! I have a few dozen new ideas and projects to tackle! I might be doing research at the U! I’m stress free and happy for the first time in a long time. 4 months to be precise! My (geeky) goal is to build at least 4 robots this break! And to eat WAY too much fudge.
(I actually went through the papers on my desk last night and found that most of them were notes on various ideas and inventions. After catorgizing them I found that I had 19 since January and most of them months later still seem like good ideas. After reading half of Make 08 today I have atleast 5 more to work on, plus a number of projects I didn’t come up with but want to try anyways. Not enough time….)

Outside: raining, 200 yards visibility, low 40s, almost night time
Inside: all lights on, Jimi Hendrix/Tom Petty/Bob Dylan playing, plants need watering
Me: studying for thermodynamics, hoping friends aren’t caught in the snow, smells like oranges
